A fast-growing community north of Calgary will be seeing a new health centre that will help address the needs of the thousands of residents that call the city home.
The new Airdrie Covenant Health Centre will house two new facilities, making it easier than ever for residents of Airdrie and surrounding communities to access a range of critical health services.
A new urgent care and birthing centre will share the health centre with a new primary, surgical and ambulatory care centre.
Airdrie’s population has almost tripled over the past 20 years, growing from about 30,000 people to more than 90,000.
The province said the new health centre will help health services keep pace with that growth and allow more residents to get the care they need closer to home.
The urgent care and birthing centre will provide care for non-life-threatening urgent health concerns, as well as maternal and birthing services.
It is expected to support roughly 1,000 deliveries and more than 30,000 urgent care visits per year.
The attached primary, surgical and ambulatory care centre will add capacity for about 10,000 surgical procedures annually.
“Airdrie is one of Alberta’s fastest-growing communities, and we’re investing in its future. This new health centre means more surgeries, more urgent care, and new birthing and specialized services for families in Airdrie. It’s a major step forward for health care in this community and one that will serve families for generations,” said Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
Alberta’s government will support construction and land acquisition for the new urgent care and birthing centre while Covenant Health will develop the attached primary and ambulatory care centre.
The new health centre is expected to open in 2031.
