EFRS posed on X platform just before 8:30 p.m. that crews had responded to 4 incidents related to ice across the city and reminded everyone to “please remember that it is never safe to step onto ice on the North Saskatchewan River or stormwater ponds.”
“As the temperatures warm up in Edmonton, please remember to keep a safe distance from the North Saskatchewan River and frozen stormwater ponds. The ice may look thick, but flowing water and fluctuating temperatures create weak areas. Edmonton Fire Rescue Services urges Edmontonians to keep pets leashed on low-lying trails and when near access points into water. If you see someone or a pet fall through ice, call 9-1-1. Do not attempt to rescue them yourself.”
