On September 30 at 5 p.m., Beaver Hills House Park becomes the setting for You Are Loved: Celebrate it!—a free public gathering presented by the Rubaboo Indigenous Arts Festival.
The event will blend live music, visual art, an artisan market, food vendors, prizes, and community spirit.
Performers include Celeigh Cardinal, Donita Large, Northside Baby, Jay Gilday, DJ Kookum, Russecetta4Real, and the Starseed Mob.
The program begins with a prayer and honour song offered by Elder, educator, and residential school survivor Dr. Jerry Saddleback, followed by traditional grass dancing from Jason Skani accompanied by drummer Monty Baptiste, and Métis jigging by champion Kenton Alook.
The Raven and our sister station CFWE will be live on location that evening.
Rubaboo is a Métis-Michif language word that refers to a rich stew filled with all good things.
Organizers of the festival say rubaboo is a philosophy about what sustains us; about feeding the spirit and thriving through the arts.
The theme of this year’s festival is You Are Loved: wêsihcikêw, and features a powerful and eclectic mix, beautifully curated to celebrate Indigenous resilience, and Indigenous brilliance.
