Alberta’s Lemonade Stand Day has smashed previous fundraising records, generating over $600,000 this year for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation—the highest amount since the initiative launched in 2014.
More than 700 lemonade stands took part across a wide stretch of communities, stretching from Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, down to Red Deer.
Founder Monita Chapman said this years results are unprecedented.
“This is, without question, the biggest year Lemonade Stand Day has ever seen. Every single stand, every cup poured, every Junior Lemon Squeezer who knocked on doors or set up a table; it all added up to something truly extraordinary. I am beyond proud of what this community has built together and for all the support we receive every year to make the lives of Stollery families easier in their hard moments.”
What began with only 30 stands 13 years ago has expanded into Canada’s biggest one-day lemonade stand event.
Chapman said Lemonade Stand Day is more than just raising money for the Stollery.
“It gives kids skills of running their own business, becoming philanthropists – learning little skills like counting money back, interacting with people or meeting their neighbours. Those are all important things that I strive to bring to our youth and to our community.”
To date, the campaign has collected more than $3.7 million to support patient- and family-centred care at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
Funds raised in the latest campaign will purchase NICView cameras for neonatal intensive care units throughout northern Alberta.
These secure live webcams allow families to check in on their babies anytime, from any location.
