MacEwan University’s Kihew Waciston Indigenous Centre is bringing Blackfoot culture to the forefront with a special event with a special event dedicated to traditional teachings from March 27-28. Elders from Siksika will share stories, language, and customs, offering a deeper understanding of Blackfoot heritage. The event aims to foster cultural awareness and strengthen connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
Emma Rain, a MacEwan University student and organizer of the Blackfoot Cultural Teachings event, spoke with 89.3 The Raven and reflected on the wealth of knowledge from the Blackfoot Culture inside Kihew Waciston. She highlights the teachings passed down from grandparents, who travelled from Siksika to share the culture and wisdom with students in attendance.
Rain hopes that students will leave with an understanding of the diverse teachings found across various Indigenous cultures.
