In June of 2024, an employee of the Okotoks Oilers Hockey Association reported to the RCMP that one of their former employees was soliciting and compensating players for intimate images and sexual videos.
It was determined that the investigation involved multiple victims from Alberta and Saskatchewan, all minor league hockey players.
The Southern Alberta District General Investigation Section (SAD GIS) was engaged in July of 2024 and took carriage of the investigation.
The investigation identified the suspect as Tyler King, 39, a Canadian citizen, employed and residing in the US. Three victims under the age of 18 were identified.
On Oct. 30, 2026, SAD GIS arrested King in Lansdowne/Kingston, Ontario. He has been charged with three counts of luring a person under 18 years, sexual exploitation of a young person and making child pornography.
After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, King was remanded into custody and will be returned to Alberta to answer to the charges.
King has been employed and has worked with hockey teams in Fort McMurray, Okotoks, Brooks, Nanaimo, and Ontario, as well as a University in the United States.
RCMP believe there could be more victims of King. If you believe you were a victim, RCMP say to contact your local police.
The RCMP encourages parents and caregivers to have regular conversations with children about personal safety, healthy boundaries, and the dangers of sexual exploitation, including sextortion.
