A deadly crash on Edmonton’s Sherwood Park Freeway claimed the life of a teenager Sunday morning.
Around 10 a.m., officers responded to a collision near 50 Street after a 17-year-old male driving an eastbound Ford Ranger lost control of the truck. The vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and was hit by a westbound Nissan.
The Ranger’s passenger, also 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No additional injuries were reported, though the Ranger’s driver along with the Nissan’s driver and passenger were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol played a role.
Sgt. Timothy Connell of the Major Collision Investigations Section offered condolences to the family and friends of the young man who died, noting that the crash underscores how quickly winter road conditions can shift.
He urged motorists to stay alert and look out for one another.
