The Alberta government is planning to enhance security across ten courthouses in the province, as part of a larger initiative that involves over $6 million in security improvements.
The courthouses included in this upgrade are located in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Lethbridge, Drumheller, Fort McMurray, Pincher Creek, Alexis, Canmore, and Cochrane.
These upgrades aim to improve safety for all individuals using the courts, including judges, staff, peace officers, and members of the public.
“Albertans expect courthouses to be safe and secure spaces for everyone who works in, visits, or relies on our justice system,” said Mickey Amery, minister of justice and attorney general.
“These investments will help modernize security infrastructure and support the safe delivery of court services across the province.”
The initiative follows recommendations from a 2023 planning study that “identified security risks” that are needed at courthouses across Albert.
