An iconic era in Alberta’s gaming industry has come to a close.
BioWare announced Wednesday that it is officially shutting its doors.
First launched in 1995 before being acquired by EA in 2007, BioWare stood as Alberta’s only major AAA gaming studio for nearly three decades, with games such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Baldur’s Gate, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
In a statement released online, the studio confirmed the shutdown and noted that early development on the upcoming Mass Effect title has been cancelled, marking the end of over 30 years of game development.
