Strathcona County will be having its Cram a Cruiser Fundraiser on October 16 to help the Strathcona Food Bank restock on some items following the Thanksgiving season.
Strathcona County Enforcement Services and RCMP members will be collecting donations at three local grocery stores from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Superstore on Baseline Road, Save-On Foods on Broadway Boulevard, and Safeway on Sherwood Drive.
“The success of Cram a Cruiser shows what can happen when we all come together to help neighbours in need. This year we’re challenging residents to help us fill even more cruisers to help replenish the shelves at the food bank after Thanksgiving,” said Tom Sutton, director of RCMP and Enforcement Services.
“Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. We’re grateful to everyone who helps cram a cruiser.”
In 2022, the Strathcona Food Bank recorded approximately 27,500 individual visits, with these numbers steadily rising due to increasing food insecurity and the rising cost of living.
The Strathcona Food Bank’s most needed items include:
– Canned fruit and fruit cup four-packs with no added sugar
– Plain tomato paste
– Pasta sauce
– Rice (unseasoned, in bulk or retail packages)
– Toothpaste, bar soap, and toilet paper
– Peanut butter
