Another Canadian is set for orbit as Alberta native Joshua Kutryk prepares to depart for the International Space Station on October 1.
NASA and SpaceX have locked in a 9:10 a.m. local-time launch window for the Crew-13 mission.
Aboard will be Kutryk together with NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney plus Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov.
Should liftoff occur on schedule, the four-person crew is projected to reach the ISS in under nine hours, with docking targeted for roughly 6 p.m. Mountain Time.
Kutryk’s stay aboard the station is expected to last about six months, during which he will contribute to scientific experiments and day-to-day operations with the multinational team.
The flight follows by roughly half a year the lunar fly-by completed by fellow Canadian Jeremy Hansen, meaning two Canadians will have reached space in the same calendar year.
Born in Fort Saskatchewan, Kutryk is an engineer, fighter pilot and test pilot with more than 4,000 flight hours accumulated on over 40 different aircraft types.
