The Annual Walk a Mile In A Ribbon Skirt Day comes back on September 16 in Edmonton

Cree Activist Chevi Rabbit is hosting the annual Walk a Mile in a Ribbon Skirt Day happening on September 16, 2026 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Edmonton City Hall in downtown Edmonton.

Walk a mile in a ribbon skirt day was created to teach and share the rich history behind the ribbon skirt as a symbol of strength, feminism, and survival.

The Day has evolved from a movement created to respond to discrimination into a celebration honoring the strength, leadership, and contributions of Indigenous women, matriarchs, Two-Spirit people, families, and allies.

This year, the late Elder Mariah Rabbit of Montana Cree Nation will be honored for her teachings and leadership helped inspire the continued evolution of this day.

A special music performances, a community awards celebration, a traditional jingle dress healing dance, and a concluding Walk for Reconciliation.

Each year, the event invites everyone to learn about, understand, and help stop the prejudices Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people face when they wear them in urban places.

Founder, Chevi Rabbit, tells the RAVEN ” He wants to make an impact in his community by bringing awareness to this topic. Everyone is welcomed to join this event, we are also doing a second event catering to men called ” Walk A Mile In A Ribbon Shirt Day” Proclamation Announcement & Community gathering held at Kakio Studio Productions located at 10219-106 Street NW from 12pm to 2pm on September 22, 2026 in Edmonton”.
