Calgary Transit has launched a new 500-series of express bus routes, which aim to provide faster connections throughout the city.
The first route in this series has been unveiled, Route 503 Symons Valley Express, which began it’s two way service throughout the day on Monday, August 31st.
The Route 300, which runs to the Calgary Airport, is being renamed to Route 500 Airport express, which the city says is it’s foundation for the new family of express routes.
The traditional express routes already in the city usually operated during peak hours, and only in one direction. The new 500-series, will go both ways and will run throughout the day.
This new network is part of Calgary Transit’s RouteAhead 30-year strategic plan and the North Central Transit Service Review.
The City of Calgary plans to monitor the new routes, and will use them to inform future 500-series decisions.
