Drivers should prepare for significant traffic disruptions in central Edmonton as crews begin removing and restoring sections of the temporary paved detour near the Low Level Bridge.
Work is scheduled from July 16 to Monday, July 20, 2026, and will affect the bridge itself along with key connecting roads including Connors Road, Scona Road, Grierson Hill, and McDougall Hill Road. The project is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if inclement weather occurs.
- Thursday, July 16 (7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.): Single-lane closures on Connors Road, Scona Road, and both the northbound and southbound Low Level Bridges.
- Friday, July 17 (8 p.m.) to Monday, July 20 (6 a.m.): Full closures of the northbound and southbound Low Level Bridges, including portions of Connors Road and Scona Road approaching the bridges.
Additional lane closures will be in place on approaching roads, including sections of 98 Avenue, the Grierson Hill access ramp, and the cloverleaf connections between Grierson Hill and McDougall Hill Road.
Recommended detour: Northbound and southbound traffic should use the James Macdonald Bridge. The City of Edmonton is urging drivers to plan ahead, allow extra time for commutes, and avoid the area if possible during the closure periods.
The work is part of ongoing efforts to restore and improve infrastructure around the historic Low Level Bridge following the use of temporary detour paving.
This short-term disruption is expected to restore more permanent road surfaces in the area, improving safety and ride quality once completed.
