Heavy overnight rain triggered localized flooding across north Edmonton, prompting multiple road closures on Yellowhead Trail and surrounding routes Wednesday morning.
Early Wednesday, city crews closed on-ramps to the Yellowhead Trail to divert traffic and create space for response teams to address flooded areas.
Edmonton Police, Fire Rescue Services and EPCOR crews are responding together at several locations, with efforts focused on clearing water and debris as quickly as possible to reopen roads safely.
In addition to flooding-related closures, several intersections are experiencing traffic signal failures, causing further disruptions:
- St. Albert Trail at 128 Avenue
- 142 Street at 91 Avenue
- 97 Street at 124 Avenue
Drivers can expect significant delays in north Edmonton, while transit services are also running behind schedule.
“Until the areas are cleared, there will be significant traffic impacts and transit service delays at these locations,” city officials stated. Transit riders are advised to build in extra time and use the trip planner at edmonton.ca/transit.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the flooding or closures. Crews will continue working through the morning to restore normal traffic flow.
