The Calgary Stampede has officially begun, drawing large crowds to Stampede Park for the opening day of “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
Last year, the 10-day event welcomed more than 1.47 million visitors.
This year, guests can enjoy dozens of classic games and rides across the grounds, along with several new attractions including the Taste of Stampede, which transforms the BMO Centre into a culinary competition hub. Over the 10 days, chefs will take the stage for approximately 40 events in a competitive format.
“We have demonstrations, which are going to be chef-led and restaurant-led, that showcase some really exceptional restaurants in our city,” said Stephanie Patterson, Chair of the Taste of Stampede. “Then we have community competitions which is going to be police versus firefighters.”
Outside the BMO Centre, visitors have plenty of food options to choose from.
Four Candy Time locations are set up across the grounds, offering sweet treats and cool refreshments.
“Big crowds — that’s what we are here for,” said owner Tyler Wray. “It’s a really good portion of our season.
