The federal government has announced funding to help with expanding access to sport and physical activity for First Nations, Inuit and Metis people.
In Edmonton, $1,226,255 will be invested in three Indigenous-led projects aimed at expanding access to sport and physical activity.
Community organizations include the Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta, Creating Hope Society and Tribal Chiefs Ventures Incorporated.
Funding was also announced for communities in rural Alberta, including Driftpile Cree Nation, the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, Little Red River Cree Nation, St Paul Mannawanis Native Friendship centre and Woodland Cree First Nation education committee.
The funding comes through the Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities program, which sees Ottawa giving $22.8 million to Indigenous groups across the country for programming from 2026-28.
