The Edmonton Public Library will raise a tipi inside the Stanley A. Milner Library for National Indigenous History Month on June 1st, with the tipi donated by Metis Child and Family Services.
Brittnay Cherweniuk, Indigenous Services Consultant with the Edmonton Public Library, tells the Raven Radio Network the partnership with the Metis Child and Family Services makes the tipi a central hub for cultural programming throughout the month of June at the library, mentioning that once people walk inside, the tipi will be located alongside the digital wall.
Cherweniuk highlights the importance for the tipi setup as it allows library staff to learn the importance and meaning behind the structure, and allows customers at the library to see the library in a new way.
