Audiences in the Edmonton and Enoch area can catch the wildly popular all-Indigenous musical Bear Grease when it arrives at the River Cree venue on April 26. Known for its humorous, “rez-ed up” spin on the classic ‘Grease’, the show blends contemporary music, powwow influences, and sharp comedy-pleasing performance that celebrate Indigenous culture with style and energy.
Crystle Lightning, Director and Co-Creator of Bear Grease the Musical, shares with Raven Radio Network what it means to bring the production to her home community, alongside lead actor Bryce Morin of Enoch.
Lightning speaks on the musical being a dedication to Elders that lived in the 50’s and 60’s, by showcasing Indigenous culture and identity with ‘Rez-Up” flair of remixes from the 50’s greasers.
