A major solar storm has lit up the sky across Canada and pushed the northern lights as far as Florida in one of the strongest geomagnetic storms of the current solar cycle.
In the past few days, the sun has burped out several bursts of energy called coronal mass ejections that reached Earth on Tuesday night.
The aurora also lit up social media, with breathtaking pictures of the sky lit up in different shades of green, purple and red from gazers across the world.
Geomagnetic storms are not harmful to humans as Earth’s atmosphere protects us from the radiation.
However, these storms can sometimes disrupt satellites and also different forms of electronic devices, such as GPS and phones.
Forecasters say more activity is expected on Thursday night.
