Edmonton Stingers & Windspeaker Media host Indigenous Celebration Night
The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League will host their inaugural Indigenous Celebration Night presented by Sentinel Storage on June 17th vs the Montreal Alliance. The project comes as a joint effort between the Stingers, Indigenous Edmonton Entertainment Group (IEEG) and Windspeaker Media.
The night will feature a halftime rendition of Bear Grease, the international Indigenous hit musical led by MC RedCloud and Crystle Lightning. Indigenous gameday with DJ Sean Beaver and pre game celebrations will take place. As part of the Celebration, the Stingers will be inviting numerous local Indigenous youth basketball teams to attend the game for free through their Basketball for All program.
The game will also be the first professional basketball game ever broadcast in both English and Cree. It will be broadcast live on 89.3 the Raven, with broadcasters Wayne Jackson, Darcy Houle & Jacob Leblanc.
For those who don’t live in Edmonton, they can tune in at ravenradio.ca or download the Windspeaker Radio Network App on the ios/android stores to listen to all Windspeaker Media radio stations in Alberta, which includes CFWE Northern Alberta and CJWE Southern Alberta.
