The City of Edmonton will introduce a new mobile payment system for EPark starting on April 29, 2024. The new HotSpot Parking system will be simpler and faster for customers to use according to a city news release.
A variety of flexible payment options will now include credit cards (Mastercard, VISA, AMEX) and debit cards. Customers will be able to pay quickly and conveniently by scanning a QR code posted on all EPark machines, using HotSpot’s website, or using the existing pay machines. In mid-May, an easy-to-use, pay-as-you go App, powered by Canadian-based HotSpot Parking will also be available.
Current customers using MyEPark who have funds in their account can continue to use them until April 29, at which point HotSpot will transfer funds with more than $25 into a new HotSpot account. Customers will be notified of the coming changes through messages within the current Epark app.
“We heard the feedback from customers who used the EPark system and incorporated it into our research for new possible mobile payment systems,” said Jenny Albers, General Supervisor of Planning and Permitting. “We found Canadian-based HotSpot had a lot of what we were looking for in a service. They have extensive experience across the country managing mobile and online parking payment services for many municipalities. We are excited to be part of their launch in Edmonton and to offer customers a service based on their feedback.”
With the launch of HotSpot’s Fast Tap System, the current system, including the MyEPark app hosted by Calgary Parking, will be deactivated. The City is working with both EPark and HotSpot to support a seamless and accurate transition for existing customers.
