The Edmonton Elks will celebrate a historic milestone this season, celebrating 75 years of green and gold in the city of Edmonton. March 25th marks 75 days until the team’s home opener with many former players in attendance for the press conference.
With the season goal of remembering key contributors to the longstanding success of the Elks, there will be a new anniversary logo as well as remembering the all time greats by unveiling the ‘All Decade Teams’. A committee of experts will pick the best players from each decade starting in the 1950’s and ending with the 2010’s.
Rick LeLacheur was with the Edmonton Elks in the early 2000’s and brought the team to glory in 2003 and 2005. He re-joined the organization as the interim President and CEO for the upcoming season following the departure of Victor Cui.
LeLacheur spoke with CFWE and said 75 years should be celebrated as a massive accomplishment and represents longstanding success in the community.
The Elk’s dressing room was filled with former players, some of which came to the city for a few years and ultimately decided to call Edmonton home. Tom Richards spent four seasons with the Elks from 1986 to 1990. He’s since stayed in the city and with the organization as the Chair for the Board of Directors.
When asked about what makes Edmonton so special, Richards said it feels like family.
The 75th season will have many special nights to remember all the former greats and bring in a new wave of fans. For details on what you can expect from the Elks 75th season, you can visit their website.
