A downtown resident was caught by surprise on Sunday morning when he noticed something moving out of the corner of his eye. Adel Al-Abodi thought he spotted a tail, so he pulled his couch back only to find a metre long corn snake. According to Adel the snake was between one and two metres long.
According to the man, the snake started moving to attack him which led him to panic when he then attacked the reptile with a nearby tool. Al-Abodi then called the building manager and police.
The snake was then removed and had to be euthanized due to its injuries.
The man recalled the incident in eastern Canada in 2013 when an escaped snake killed two children. The snake in that incident was a phython. The snake in this incident is confirmed to have been a corn snake. Corn snakes will often wrap their bodies around prey to subdue it.
According to the buildings manager, the snake belonged to a neighbour who was not permitted to have it as the building is a pet free building.
