Cold Lake RCMP continue to investigate after a suspect was allegedly found with a weapon inside the Cold Lake energy center on Friday.
At about 8:30 am, two people were reportedly involved in an incident that included a weapon on the second floor of the Energy Centre, near the back of the Reid Field House.
A bylaw officer patrolling the area encountered the two individuals and discovered the weapon, at which point RCMP were called for assistance.
RCMP arrested one individual, and according to the City, all users and staff within the facility were unharmed.
“This incident could have gone very wrong,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “We are looking at ways of providing more security for patrons, but we’re struggling to keep up with this escalation of potential violence in our community.”
The Cold Lake High School and Portage College, which are both attached to the energy center were notified of the incident, out of an abundance of caution.
