Alberta has opened a new support centre in the capital city in hopes of helping those living in encampments.
The centre will have staff connecting people to shelters, housing and financial services, help gaining ID cards in addition to Indigenous cultural support workers.
Staff from Radius Health and AHS will be on site to help anyone dealing with addictions treatment, alongside a local organization to help with people’s pets.
The new centre will be run out of the Karis Centre in the Hope Mission shelter in central Edmonton and will be open 8am-4:30pm Monday to Friday and open 24/7 to those who registered. Free transportation will be provided to the centre.
The province says the project will be evaluated every 30 days to gauge its success and demand.
