The Edmonton police service is reminding the public when it comes to the dangers of homeless encampments.
EPS released images this morning of some of the confiscated weapons that included pellet and BB guns, 34 knives, 11 machetes, 10 samurai swords, two axes, brass knuckles and a collapsible baton.
The photos were released just hours before officers embarked on their eighth and final encampment sweep deemed high risk by both the city and EPS.
According to officials, the weapons seized were collected a week prior during a similar sweep on the encampment located in Dawson Park.
Today’s encampment sweep near 95 street and Rowland Road was met with resistance from not only camp residents but politicians standing nearby along with nearby residents who also also called for better action when it comes to the housing issues the city has been facing.
One Riverdale resident went on to say that there has been no issues with the people who have been calling the vacant land home.
Earlier today, the Coalition for Justice and Human Rights appealed to the courts to stop today’s eviction because of the recent change in weather in the city.
Police and City officials plead their case that there is ample shelter space so a judge chose not to act on the case, however the main injunction application is set to be heard in an Alberta court room on Wednesday and Thursday.
