The Edmonton Police Service is warning citizens of a recent series thefts of Lexus RX350 models.
The EPS Targeted Response to Auto-theft Prevention team (TRAP) is investigating thefts of Lexus RX350 models throughout the Edmonton area.
Most vehicles involved are 2019 to 2022 model years, but a few 2016 to 2017 model years have also been targeted.
Nearly 50 Lexus RX350 SUVs have been stolen in total Alberta in 2023, with 19 being from Edmonton and 6 in the past 24 hours.
The factory GPS tracking system has been disabled in the thefts.
“We want to make owners of these vehicles aware of these thefts, so that they can protect themselves from becoming victims,” according to Acting Sergeant Don Lawrence of the TRAP team.
Police are encouraging owners of these vehicles to park in a secure space, such as a garage or in a well-lit area. Owners are also advised to remove all valuables from their vehicles and to use a steering-wheel lock or an aftermarket GPS device if possible.
