The Mannawanis Native Friendship Centre (MNFC) in St. Paul is collecting winter clothing as part of its Shared Warmth initiative, which aims to help residents who may struggle to afford winter wear
The centre is seeking donations of items such as gloves, scarves, warm socks and long johns. Donations can be dropped off at the centre, located at 4901 50 Street, with no deadline for contributions.
“These small things are actually a big thing in somebody else’s life,” said Twila Anderson, who works with the centre’s MNWIG program and is helping organize the initiative.
“If they’re feeling alone, just having access to something warm can actually brighten their day, to make them feel important, and that they matter.”
The MNFC is a local non-profit organization that offers a variety of programs and services, including outreach support for vulnerable community members and a youth program. It also connects people in need with assistance from other organizations.
The centre provides a space for people to have coffee, warm up or smudge, and welcomes anyone who wants to visit and meet the staff.
