During a ceremony on Friday evening, Cochrane’s Kyla Lightfoot was crowned the 2027 Calgary Stampede Princess.
She edged out six other finalists after judges assessed their abilities in the saddle, public speaking, and one-on-one interviews.
The 23-year-old has been on horseback since she was a toddler. She has a long history in Alberta rodeo royalty including 2023 Cochrane Lions Rodeo Queen, 2024 Miss Rodeo Airdrie & 2025 Miss Ponoka Stampede.
She is currently studying for a Bachelor of Communications in Journalism and Digital Media at Mount Royal University.
She will share ambassador duties with Chondra Fox, selected as the 2027 First Nations Princess on October 25. Their terms run from January 1 through December 31, 2027.
Over those twelve months the pair will appear at hundreds of functions, among them the Calgary Stampede itself from July 9 to 18, highlighting the event’s Western traditions, diverse cultures, and community values while gaining valuable professional and personal growth.
