Royal Tusk is a Canadian rock band from Edmonton, A.B. The three-member band, featuring Daniel Carriere on vocals, Quinn Cyrankiewicz on guitar, and Sandy MacKinnon on bass, formed in 2011 following the end of Carriere and MacKinnon’s previous band, Ten Second Epic.
They began writing music for their debut EP, Mountain, which was released in 2014.
The band has continued building its sound over the years, releasing its latest song, “Striking Oil,” on October 12, 2026. The track has taken on an exciting new role, becoming the Edmonton Oilers’ official goal song for the 2026–2027 season.
The band is also gearing up to continue the Within Canada Tour alongside Protest, with stops in Edmonton on November 29 and Calgary on November 30.
Jackson spoke with MacKinnon about the upcoming tour, the band’s latest release, and what it means to have “Striking Oil” selected as the Oilers’ goal song for the season.
