The Alberta RCMP issued 1,861 traffic violation tickets over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
From October 9 to 12, RCMP participated in enforcement initiatives as part of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police’s Operation Impact 2026 campaign, which aims to reduce injuries and fatalities on Canadian roadways.
“Operation Impact is an important reminder that road safety requires constant attention behind the wheel,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull of Alberta RCMP Traffic Services.
Of the 1,861 tickets issued, 755 were for speeding, 32 were for distracted driving, and 25 were for seatbelt violations.
Despite enforcement efforts, 15 injury collisions and two fatal collisions occurred over the long weekend.
“While enforcement plays a role, every driver has a responsibility to make safe choices and help keep Alberta’s roads safe,” Turnbull said.
