The Alberta government is investing $12.5 million through the Alberta Surgical Initiative to renovate and upgrade Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital.
The improvements will increase surgical capacity by nearly 50 per cent, supporting more than 3,000 additional procedures each year.
Renovations will begin in the coming weeks, with the upgraded spaces anticipated to be fully operational by 2029.
The hospital will remain operational throughout the renovations, with surgeries continuing and work carefully phased to minimize disruptions to patients and care.
“These renovations will put that work into action in Fort Saskatchewan, supporting thousands more procedures each year and helping patients get the care they need when and where they need it,” said Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services.
The renovations will significantly expand the hospital’s surgical capacity, allowing it to care for more patients while modernizing key spaces to meet the community’s needs into the future the province said.
The Alberta Surgical Initiative is a $284 million investment over three years to renovate operating rooms, upgrade surgical infrastructure and purchase new equipment in hospitals across the province.
Renovations at the hospital include expanded day surgery space, relocated outpatient and IV therapy services, and upgrades to the Medical Device Reprocessing Area.
