Turnovers proved decisive for the Edmonton Elks on Saturday as they snapped a two-game losing streak with a convincing 42-12 victory over the visiting Toronto Argonauts at Commonwealth Stadium.
An 85-yard interception return for a touchdown by J.J. Ross highlighted a dominant defensive performance. Edmonton scored 27 points off six Toronto turnovers.
“I’m really proud of the group,” Elks head coach Mark Kilamn said. “It was a two-point game at the half, and we came out with something to prove. We got the forced fumble right away and didn’t look back. It’s just the leadership in the room. They had a single mindset to get it done and that’s what they did.”
Win the win, The Elks improved to 7-3 and temporarily moved ahead of Saskatchewan into first place in the CFL West Division.
“It was just an outstanding performance from all three phases after we just got our butts kicked in Montreal in all three phases,” Elks quarterback Cody Fajardo said. “That response right there says that we’re not a good team, we’re a great team.”
The Elks host the 5-4 Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night at Commonwealth.
