Inuit/Métis artist Tracy Alikamik started a program to help Inuit women re-connect with their culture. Alikamik created “Reconnecting with Our Qulliq”.
It’s a 10 week program aiming to build community, discuss ways to bring Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit core principles and learn how to light a soapstone qulliq. Local Inuit elders and local knowledge keepers will be celebrating the women’s graduation on March 18, 2026 with traditional country food. The women will be taking home their own qulliq and seal skin bundle bag.
The program started back on January 14, 2026 to March 18, 2026 held at St. Faith’s Church in Edmonton.
