Rising Through The Fray is the latest film by Mohawk Filmmaker Courtney Montour.
Montour offers a poignant exploration of resiliency, healing, and reconnection of a roller derby family with a bond that goes beyond sport.
This film follows the groundbreaking roller derby team Indigenous Rising welcoming a new generation of players determined to change the face of the game.
Montour has explored issues of Indigenous identity. Her films have screened at DOXA, Big Sky and Margaret Mead. Her first documentary Sex Spirit Strength (2015) won Best of Festival and the Emerging Filmmaker award at the 2016 Yorkton Film Festival.
She has directed episodes for several documentary series including Mohawk Ironworkers (2016) and Skindigenous and a short documentary Mary Two-Axe Earley: I Am Indian Again (2021), produced by the National Film Board of Canada.
