A park in downtown Edmonton that’s been in the works for 13 years could soon see construction after city council approved a request to rezone the area.
City council approved a request to rezone the land to park space and to close a portion of 107th Street at a public hearing Tuesday.
The envisioned Warehouse Park would stretch from Jasper Avenue north to 102nd Avenue, and 106th to west of 107th streets in downtown Edmonton and covers about 1.47 hectares.
The area is currently home to multiple parking lots.
The city plans to finalize the preliminary design of the Warehouse Park by the end of the summer.
However, council will still need to approve the $40-million budget next month to build the park, with construction proposed for early 2024.
