Metis artist Kaeley Jade is quickly becoming an emerging voice in Canada’s music scene.
The Edmonton-based singer/songwriter blends indie-pop energy with folk inspired storytelling that leaves audiences wanting more.
Her full length debut album “Turpentine” earned her accolades that include a Canadian Folk Music Award and a Western Canadian Music Award Nomination.
Kaeley has played many festivals across Canada, including the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, JUNOfest, International Indigenous Music Summit, and Canmore Folk Music Festival.
She has been busy this summer with a tour across much of B.C., Alberta and Ontario and now is releasing a new single called “The Ceiling.”
Kaeley said she had been holding onto the seed of a song about the days when you wake up in a haze, struggling to connect with the world around you, when everything just feels utterly wrong.
She wrote the song alongside Amanda Penner.
“We were deep in a discussion on all the atrocities that have been happening around the world, and were both finding ourselves feeling quite small and powerless in the face of it all,” Jade said.
The artwork for the single was designed by Kaeley Jade herself.
Darrell Stranger spoke with Kaeley about the single, the unique process of how it was recorded and how she is going right back on tour after just finishing up summer shows.
