RCMP said a man was taken to hospital after being shot by an officer at the Strathcona County RCMP detachment in Sherwood Park Monday.
RCMP said a man was in the parking lot of the detachment around 10:30 a.m. with what appeared to be a firearm.
The detachment went into lockdown and officers engaged with the man and at least one officer shot him according to RCMP.
He was given first aid until EMS arrived and transported him to hospital. The extent of the man’s injuries are unknown but RCMP said he is alive.
Further investigation will reveal how the man got into the gated parking lot and his motivations.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) will be investigating the incident and independent of ASIRT’s investigation, and an RCMP internal review process will also take place.
