A map of the province's Highway 2 widening project at Red Deer.
Work on the Highway 2 or the QE2 is expected to begin this summer over three phases and end in 2027.
It will begin with the replacement of the overpass over a railway line north of Red Deer, replacing two bridges built in the 1960s, and widening the road to six lanes from four by the end of 2025.
Work is slated to end two years later with expansion of the corridor between the interchanges at 32 Street and 67 Street to eight lanes from six, and the construction of two new bridges over the Red Deer River.
Crews will also widen the roadway to six lanes from four between the interchanges of Highways 11 and 11A in 2026.
