An Edmonton teacher at St. Oscar Romero Catholic High School has been charged with offences related to online child sexual exploitation. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit charged Jimmy Buena on June 24 for the offences of making, accessing, possessing, and transmitting child pornography.
ICE officers attended the school on June 24 in an attempt to arrest the suspect but he could not be located.
A warrant has been issued for this arrest, as it is believed that he has left the country ALERT said.
The investigation began last week after ALERT was provided a tip by the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
Buena had allegedly uploaded child sexual abuse materials using Facebook.
The charges to Buena are related to online offences and it is unknown at this time if any students were potentially impacted.
ICE is sharing this information given his position of trust and authority. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local police or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).
The investigation remains ongoing.
