Nominations are now open for the 2025 Okimaw Awards.
Okimaw is a Cree word that translates to “leader” in English.
The awards, now in their fourth year, are meant to honour Indigenous men for their dedication to service and lifting up others in the Indigenous community.
They are also based around what’s known as the seven teachings, which are humility, honesty, respect, courage, wisdom, truth and love.
Nominations close on August 31, with the awards scheduled in November in the atrium at Edmonton City Hall.
Janice Randhile is the founder of the Okimaw Awards
