Castledowns Pointe condo
Nearly two years after residents were forced to evacuate an Edmonton condo over structural concerns, the troubled Castledowns Pointe building has been sold for $5.1 million. Alberta-based developer Harmani purchased the vacant property with plans to repair and rent out its 83 units. The deal, finalized in April and approved by Edmonton’s Court of King’s Bench, marks a turning point for owners who have faced ongoing financial strain since the evacuation in September 2023.
Condo board president Susan Strebchuk said the sale offers a measure of closure, but warned residents may not see sale proceeds until late fall — and even then, only a fraction of what they’ve spent on repairs, mortgage payments and fees. The evacuation was prompted after a post-fire inspection revealed major code violations and structural issues unrelated to the blaze.
