A two-year-old boy who went missing from a rural property in northern Alberta has been found safe, following an extensive overnight search involving RCMP officers, firefighters, and community volunteers.
RCMP say the child was last seen playing outside his home near Hines Creek, Alta., around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. When his family couldn’t locate him after a short time, they contacted police, prompting a large-scale search operation.
Police, along with multiple fire departments, search and rescue teams, and area residents, combed the property and surrounding areas throughout the evening and into the early morning hours.
At approximately 7 a.m. Monday, a volunteer found the toddler more than a kilometre from his home, sitting in a field. He was reportedly cold and wet, but otherwise in good health.
EMS assessed the boy on scene and confirmed he did not need further medical attention.
Mounties say foul play is not suspected, and no charges are expected.
Officials are thanking the public for their quick response and support. “It’s always a tremendous relief when these cases have a positive outcome,” RCMP said in a statement.
Hines Creek is located about 600 kilometres northwest of Edmonton, in Clear Hills County.
