
Late Wednesday evening, more residents were told to leave their homes because of the wildfire danger in Sturgeon County and surrounding area.
The wildfire evacuation order east of Redwater was expanded overnight to include more people surrounding the nearby Redwater Provincial Recreation Area.
The emergency alert directed affected residents to go immediately to an evacuation centre in Morinville.
When it was last measured, the fire near Redwater was estimated to be 1,500 hectares with a 28-linear kilometres perimeter.
Parts of Athabasca, Thorhild, and Westlock counties remain on evacuation alert, meaning affected residents should be prepared to leave with an hour’s notice from officials.
