A wildfire has destroyed 45 structures in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and 1600 people have been forced to leave.
Power infrastructure was also destroyed, and because there is no power, the water treatment plant stopped operating.
Sturgeon Lake is one of nine First Nations in Alberta threatened by wildfire.
Over the weekend, Gift Lake Metis Settlement & Dene tha’ First Nations were also under evacuation alerts.
At Sucker Cree First Nation, officials said a wildfire is burning west of East Prairie Road – Highway 749, and members were told to be ready to leave with one hour’s notice.
As of Sunday, there were 89 wildfires burning in the province, with 24 classified as out of control.
