Telus World of Science temporarily shuts down after ‘small fire’ damages building

Telus World of Science Edmonton will be closed indefinitely due to a fire at the facility on January 20th.

Kyla Amrhein, director, marketing and community relations for TWOS said that the fire was in a maintenance room located near the feature exhibit gallery.

Telus World of Science is not sure how the fire started in the maintenance room, and they’re still looking for a cause.

Amrhein said it’s unclear how long the building will be closed — but they don’t anticipate it being too long.

No permanent exhibits were damaged and the fire did not impact the structural integrity of the building, but the closure will allow for extensive cleaning and removal of smoke residue and particles.

A mechanical unit in the feature exhibit hall will also have to be replaced.
