The Edmonton Oilers couldn’t solve Goalie Jake Allen at home Monday night, getting shutout for the third time this season. Allen made 31 saves for the 26th shutout of his career as the Devils closed out their western Canadian trip with a 3-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
Following a modest two game winning streak, the Oilers fall back to .500 hockey with a 6-6-1 record. Backup Calvin Pickard only made 13 stops in the game while Edmonton’s special teams continues to be a glaring problem for the team. Sitting dead last in the league on the penalty kill and with their usually vaunted power play at No. 25.
Head Coach Kris Knoblauch addressed his teams special teams unit’s both the powerplay and penalty kill woes after the loss.
Edmonton remains without their captain Connor McDavid giving players an opportunity to step up with more ice time, one of the players seeing increased minutes is newly acquired Vasili Podkolzin, in 13 games he’s assisted on 3 goals but yet to find the back of the net himself. He spoke to media following the loss and says he needs to play a little more consistent hockey.
Up next for the Oil will be a division game against the Vegas Golden Knights at Rogers Place tomorrow night at 6:30pm.
