For the past three years, the National Music Centre at Studio Bell in Calgary Alberta has been hosting the Ohsoto’kino Indigenous Artist Incubator and residency program.
Ohsoto’kino is a Blackfoot phrase which means ‘To recognize a voice of’ and is the leading program at the National Music Centre and form of ReconciliACTION as it empowers the next generation of Indigenous artist in Canada.
This is through two recording residencies for contemporary and traditional artists and a five-day Incubator which includes a showcase.
On the evening of Sept. 3, members of the 2024 Ohsoto’kino incubator held their showcase on the fifth floor of Studio Bell to show their talents and critiqued by the program’s mentors who are of Indigenous members of Canada’s music industry.
Taking part in the showcase were Alberta artists Brettyn Rose, Jarrid Lee, Kaely Jade, Darrian Gerard of Duncan, BC, Grace Clark of Yellowknife, and Osani Balkaran a.k.a. O.B. of Winnipeg.
The 2024 residence bursaries were awarded to Alberta Country Artist Chelsey Young and drum group Warscout.
