Following a lengthy trial, Chief of the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation Vern Janvier has been found not guilty of sexual assault and breach of trust with the crown dropping the extortion charge.
Wood Buffalo RCMP began their investigation into sexual assault allegations back in February 2022 after receiving complaints about claims dating back to 2007.
During the trial Janvier argued four of the sexual assault allegations were consensual while denying any sexual activity or assaults took place with the other two cases.
